Structural engineering and design in Namibia

Structural engineering connects a defined load case to a structure that can be fabricated, installed and inspected. My experience covers industrial and offshore steelwork in Namibia and the wider region, from truck ramps and roof covers to decks, access structures and lifting equipment.

Section 01Industrial and offshore structural design

The design scope starts with asset geometry, intended use, support conditions and operational loading. I work with structural analysis, 3D modelling and fabrication drawings to translate those inputs into buildable details. Applicable design standards must be agreed for each project; offshore and marine structures may require class-specific requirements rather than a generic building design approach.

  • Steel roof covers for mixing tanks and compressors in Walvis Bay.
  • A 30-tonne truck ramp including lifting lugs and forklift pockets.
  • Workboat mezzanine deck design for a stated 10 t/m² loading.
  • FPSO storage decks, racks, moonpool stairways and offshore railings.
  • Crawler beams, lifting beams, padeyes and crane/davit foundations.

Section 02Survey-informed repairs and reinforcement

Existing structures require a measured starting point. Corrosion, distorted members, changed equipment loads and undocumented modifications can make the original drawing an unreliable basis for repair. Field measurements, laser scans and inspection findings inform the repair scope before drawings are issued.

Documented experience includes hull-deformation reinforcement, ballast-tank reinforcement supporting a helideck, and structural surveys of primary and secondary oil-rig structures. Inspection findings and engineering recommendations are recorded as part of the handover.

Section 03Serving Namibian marine and industrial projects

The portfolio includes work in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Windhoek, alongside offshore assignments in Angola and Ivory Coast. Location, access requirements, survey availability and project-specific approval responsibilities are confirmed when discussing a new scope. No local office or class approval is implied by a service-area description.

Section 04Information needed for a design enquiry

Send the available drawings, dimensions, required loads, operating environment and proposed installation location. For existing assets, photographs and inspection records help identify what must be measured or verified.

  • Asset purpose and expected loading, including lifting or transport cases.
  • Available as-built information and material specifications.
  • Applicable standards, class requirements and review/approval process.
  • Required deliverables and fabrication or installation schedule.
